We matched...

March 19, 2021

On Monday, we found out that after four years of medical school my wife has matched for a residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She was fortunate to have great options that could land us at one of several, mostly metropolitan, locations across the country. While we’ll miss our apartment that has gotten us through the past 4 years in Madison, WI, we have never been more ready to move somewhere new. Today, after a week of suspense, we have finally been informed of where we will spend the next four years (just one of the many lovely details of the residency matching system).

Before I announce what you’ve surely come here to find out, I want to say that I truly could not be more proud of my wife for what she has accomplished. As someone who once had aspirations of becoming a doctor himself, to see her tenacity as she persues her passion is a sight to behold. The process of getting to where she is today is a grueling undertaking; the grades, testing, internships, MCATS, and interviews, while all requiring significant attention, are but a few stepping stones along the path to where she is today. In addition to navigating the many ups and downs in the day-to-day of medical school, constant attention to detail and an underlying fear that your dream could slip away if you ever let up are inescapable stresses that accompany this journey. To say Helen has proven herself is an understatement, and it has been an honor to be along for the ride.

This summer we’ll be moving to Santa Clara, California, where Helen will be enrolled at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center residency program for Obestrics and Gynecology. I will continue with my current job at Anova Culinary which has been fully remote since the pandemic.

Congratulations Helen! We’re both incredibly happy to be moving back to our home state where we will be close to our families.

If you’ve managed to read this far there’s a chance you’re wondering, what’s the DocuBlog? I’ll admit I’m kind of wondering that myself, but unfortunately I don’t have a clear answer for you, at least not at the moment. However, if there is one thing I am sure of it’s that I want to write more. The only writing I do in a professional capacity consists of small fragmented lines of text, mostly outlining tasks to be done or documentation. I like my job, but It just doesn’t scatch that itch. My first attempt was at the start of 2021 I made a New Year’s resolution to start keeping a diary. I’ve always loved the idea of keeping a diary and admire those who can keep up the practice. More than three months into the new year I’m yet to make a single entry. I forced myself to figure out what would actually get me excited to write, and much to my surprise the answer was that it needed to be shared (plus, I heard the internet needed more bloggers). With that said let me be the first to welcome you to the DocuBlog - a space to share my many interests, hobbies, imperfections, updates on my life, and everything on my mind. In time, I hope to expand the site’s capabilities so I can solicit feedback and engage with you more collaboratively - I welcome you to sign up with your email address and I’ll let you know when I write something new.

So buckle up, cause this ain’t no average blog - this is the DocuBlog.
